Eye of the Day: Vibrant Teal

I’ve been trying to do a bright teal look for a long time with various different products from many different companies. None of them turned out bright enough or quite the color I wanted them.

Enter Sugarpill. I ordered a “Monster Palette”  (Sweetheart) a bit ago that they were selling at 40% off. Why not, right? Especially since I’ve had my eye on some of the shadows in the first place. Best makeup buy in a long time! I was able to do the look I’ve been wanting to do, and have it turn out the vibrancy and color I wanted! Score! On to the look (I only did eyes today since I’m not going out, click to enlarge):

What I used:

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • Sugarpill Tako – from lashline to brow before other colors, and inner corner
  • Sugarpill Midori – middle of lid
  • Sugarpill Afterparty – outer 1/3
  • Aromaleigh Moonagedaydream (Rocks! Collection) – crease and blended upwards
  • Smashbox Cream Liner in Lava – upper and lower lashline
  • Benefit Badgal Mascara in Black
  • Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows in Black-brown

Do you have looks in your mind that you find difficult to bring to life because you can’t find the just the right color on the market?

Look: Smokey Purple

I actually broke out some of my Aromaleigh shadows today for a silvery purple look. I wanted to use Xylia because I hadn’t cracked into my Lost in Faerie collection shadows since I received them. The look (click to enlarge):

What I used:

Face:

  • Shu Uemura Nobara Cream Stick Foundation in 564
  • MAC Studiofix in NC20
  • Bobbi Brown Blush in Pale Pink

Eyes:

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • Aromaleigh Wonderland (Gothic Lolita) – lid
  • Aromaleigh Xylia (Lost in Faerie) – outer 1/3
  • Aromaleigh Mirielle (Bete Noire) – crease and blended upwards
  • Beauticontrol Spectaculash in Black
  • Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Sepia Ink
  • Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows in Black-Brown

Lips:

  • Aromaleigh Lip Balm
  • MAC Peachstock Lipstick (PRO) — this is really becoming a staple nude for me

Also, as of right now, the colors I used in this look are still available for sale from what I can tell. Aromaleigh’s new official close date is now November 15.

Look: Feelin’ the Fall

I was feeling like a Fall look today and to me that means bronzes and golds, like the leaves changing. Here’s what I ended up with (forgive the angry face in the photos…I was looking into the sun!).

What I used:

Face:

  • Shu Uemura Nobara Cream Stick Foundation in 564
  • MAC Studiofix Concealer in NC20
  • Bobbi Brown Blush in Almond

Eyes:

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • Meow Sand Dune (Egyptian Treasures) – inner corners and inner 1/3 of lid
  • Meow Pyramid (Egyptian Treasures) – middle 1/3 of lid
  • Meow Anubis (Egyptian Treasures) – outer 1/3 of lid and into crease, also lower outer corner
  • Meow Jackal (Egyptian Treasures) – to deepen crease and blended upwards
  • Sugarpill Tako – highlight
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Zero – waterline
  • Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows in Black-Brown
  • Beauticontrol Spectaculash Mascara in Black

Lips:

  • Aromaleigh Italian Blood Orange Lip Balm
  • MAC Peachstock lipstick (PRO, but mine is from the Liberty of London Collection)

I love these colors, and I’ve always loved Meow’s Egyptian Treasures Collection — all the shadows are buttery smooth, effortless to blend, and stunning with their metallic finish.

This look did not photograph well; you can’t even see the difference in the colors in the natural light! Here’s one inside with a flash, but it still doesn’t look quite true to life:

Do you feel like doing looks based on the season at times?

Review: Urban Decay Naked Palette

So I’m a little late to the party on this one. I actually received my palette a week before the wedding, but didn’t have time to give it a proper review. I took it on my honeymoon, so it really got a good test run. So this review may be late, but here it is!

The Urban Decay Naked Palette ($44) was released earlier this summer, and contains 12 full size (.05 oz!) “neutral” shadows, five of which are new shades. It also comes with a double-ended 24/7 liner (.02 oz/each end), and a mini primer potion bottle (.13 fl. oz).

Packaging:

The packaging is quite hefty, chocolate, velvet-textured, and has a magnetic closure. It has gold foil lettering on the top, and inside. The inside also includes a small mirror, long shadow pans, and a slot for the eye liner.

Taking this traveling with me, I had a few concerns: that the velvety outside would attract dust and lint like a magnet; that the case, while hefty, wouldn’t be up to being banged around in my luggage; and that the magnet may not hold well.

None of these concerns were necessary. This palette traveled beautifully. It did attract a minute bit of stuff on the velvet, but it came off with a light brush of the hand. There were no dents or dings, and the magnet held through two 9 hour flights, a being dragged around in my luggage for more time than that.

Product:

This palette comes with 12 shades: Virgin (new), Sin, Naked, Sidecar (BoS1), Buck (new), Half Baked, Smog, Darkhorse (new), Toasted, Hustle (new), Creep (new), and Gunmetal. They are in different finishes, but mostly matte, frost, and shimmer. They are surprisingly modest shades coming from Urban Decay, and have great textures and blend well with little fallout. Pigmentation is also excellent, as is expected from UD.

I really love these colors! My favorites so far have been Virgin, Toasted, and Hustle. Virgin, while frosty, can be used as a highlighter in many capacities — cheekbones, tear duct, etc., though it may be too much for the brow bone for some. Toasted and Hustle I love together, they both have a shimmery finish and look great together. I’m a sucker for mauve-y browns, and here they are! Hustle is an exceptionally beautiful crease color.

While not my favorite of the bunch, Naked has probably gotten the most use so far, just because it is so neutral and easy to use alone or with any of the other colors. Easy was the name of the game on vacation!

I cannot even express how much value is in this palette — a regular full-sized Urban Decay Shadow sells for $17! I was worried that maybe these shadows may not be up to par, or too glittery for me (as some UD shadows are), but I was pleasantly surprised. A few of the colors  aren’t as “neutral” as the rest, but for the most part, this entire palette is perfect for work-appropriate looks, while also being able to take your look to evening.

The liners are the same as any 24/7 liner — buttery smooth and long-lasting.

Swatches (natural light with flash; as always, click to enlarge):

L-R: Virgin, Sin, Naked, Sidecar, Buck, Half Baked, Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle, Creep, Gunmetal

Overall:

5/5. The best palette (factory palette, not ones I’ve put together) I’ve ever owned hands down. I will (and have) use every color. The value is exceptional — 12 full size, high quality shadows, 2 mini liners, and a mini primer. If this wasn’t sold out EVERYWHERE, I’d probably buy another for my sister, and another for myself as a backup. LOVE IT! So if you get the chance to grab this — DO IT! You won’t regret it!

Disclaimer: All products in this post were bought by me.

FOTD: Drama!

Another stormy day today! I wanted to inject some drama into my look, so I went to my Aromaleigh Victoria’s Revenge colors, yet again. It’s really a very simple eye; only a few colors, but I like the way it looks!

Looks like I had a blending weird spot on the left eye…off to round it out!

What I used:

Face:

  • Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
  • Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Light Beige
  • MAC Studiofix Concealer in NC20
  • MAC Fun ‘n Games (Hello Kitty LE) – cheek

Eyes:

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
  • Aromaleigh Skeleton Key (Victoria’s Revenge) – lid
  • Aromaleigh Gaslight Tears (Victoria’s Revenge) – outer corner and crease
  • Aromaleigh Bleeding Poppy (Victoria’s Revenge) – blended above Gaslight Tears
  • Aromaleigh Blossom (Midsummer Night’s Dream LE) – highlight
  • Urban Decay Glide-On Pencil in Zero
  • Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara in Black

Lip:

  • Dior Creme de Rose Lip Balm

FOTD: Elegant Taupes

Today was another dreary one here, and I decided to try out a simple look with some Fyrinnae shadows that I just bought. I think it turned out quite elegant, and definitely doesn’t go with the t-shirt I’m wearing!

Face:

  • Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
  • Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup in 1.5 Nude
  • Dior Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Powder in 022 Cameo
  • Bobbi Brown Blush in Almond
  • MAC Studiofix Concealer in NC20

Eyes:

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • Fyrinnae Koala – all over lid
  • Fyrinnae Knickers in a Twist – outer corner and crease
  • Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Liner in Sepia Ink
  • Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows in Black-Brown
  • Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara in Black

Lips:

  • Aromaleigh Lip Balm in Italian Blood Orange
  • Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick in Rose Interview

I’m pretty new to the Fyrinnae party, but I must say that my first impression of these colors is that they are phenomenal! I’m already deeply in love with Koala, a rose-y taupe that is somewhat similar to MAC’s Satin Taupe, but better, I think. I may need to place another order, soon, for some more taupe goodness! 🙂

FOTD: Another Blue One!

It is a dreary day here today, so I wanted to do some fun makeup to lift my mood!

This is what I did (click to enlarge):

Face:

  • Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Light Beige
  • Dior Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Powder in 022 Cameo
  • Eve Pearl Bronzing Highlight Duo in Classic

Eyes:

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • Aromaleigh Waltz (En Pointe Collection) – inner corner
  • Aromaleigh Return to Tiffany’s (Hot in the City Collection) – middle of lid
  • Aromaleigh Serenade (En Pointe Collection) – outer corner
  • Aromaleigh Morphing Moon (Les Papillons Collection) – crease
  • Aromaleigh Glowing Luna (Les Papillons Collection) – lightly to highlight
  • Aromaleigh Arabesque (En Pointe Collection) – on lower lashline
  • Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Liner in Sepia Ink
  • Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows in Black-Brown
  • …and I’m silly and just realized I still need to put mascara on!

Lips:

  • MAC So This Season lipglass, blotted
  • Dior Creme de Rose Balm

…off to put some mascara on! Hehe!

FOTD – More new goodies!

I received in the mail yesterday an order I placed ages ago with Editor’s Closet for some Eve Pearl goodies. Of course I wanted to use them right away, so here is what I wore today (wow, bad brow day!):

Face:

  • Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
  • Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Light Beige
  • Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer in Medium
  • Eve Pearl Bronzing Highlighter Trio – swirled together on cheeks

Eyes:

  • NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base
  • Eve Pearl The Eye Palette in Diva Eyes – I used the shades Desert Rose (inner 1/2), Cinnamon (outer1/2), and Sugar Plum (crease)
  • Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Bone – to highlight
  • Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Liner in Sepia Ink
  • Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara
  • Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows in Black-Brown

Lips:

  • Eve Pearl Lip Color in Love Story
  • Clinique Long Last Glosswear in Kissyfit

I’m loving the new EP stuff on first try; will do a review after a few more uses!

FOTD – New Goodies and an Old Favorite!

Today, I wanted to use my new Sephora goodies! So I used a few of them with one of my favorite eye shadows, and my trusty Bobbi Brown Almond Blush. On to the face (click to enlarge)!

I actually did both photos in natural light today because they are the ones that show off the shadow color the best!

What I used:

Face:

  • Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer
  • Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Light Beige
  • Bobbi Brown Blush in Almond
  • MAC Studiofix Concealer in NC20
  • MUFE HD Microfinish Powder

Eyes:

  • NARS Smudge Proof Eye Primer
  • Aromaleigh Underworld (Elemental Lustre Collection) – All over lid as a wash
  • Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Bone – to highlight
  • Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara in Black
  • Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Espresso – Brows

Lips:

  • Korres Mango Butter Lipstick SPF 10 in 22 Rose

A note on Underworld: I LOVE it. It is a favorite of mine because it looks like molten copper in the pot, and then you put it on and think “WTH?!” It goes on a deep, smoky, purple-based taupe color with amazing blueish purple and reddish reflects, but when you see it in the light it has a bit of a shift to that yummy copper color. It’s phenomenal and nearly indescribable…you need it in your life! You can kind of see the color complexity in the photos, but the reflects you can’t really detect. It doesn’t look like only one color when used as a wash, and also looks good paired with other colors! LOVE.

EOTD – More Victoria’s Revenge!

I had been wanting to do a look with some of the purple-y colors from Aromaleigh’s Victoria’s Revenge Collection and decided that today was the day! I like the way it turned out, though it looks a lot lighter in the pictures than in real life!

What I used:

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • Aromaleigh Cyanide Sorrow (Victoria’s Revenge) – inner 1/3 of lid
  • Aromaleigh Oleander Vapor (Victoria’s Revenge) – middle of lid
  • Aromaleigh Apocalypse Pansy (Victoria’s Revenge) – outer corner and crease
  • Aromaleigh Blossom (Midsummer Night’s Dream) – highlight
  • Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows
  • Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara in Black

Once again, these colors are hard to photograph! There is much more glitz in real life with this look! I’m loving Apocalypse Pansy, though; beautiful purple!
