My Beauty, My Style

Category: Hauls

So…my wedding is in a month. My skin is awful. So I decided it was time for me to get serious about skincare. I have a lot of redness in my face, and very sensitive skin. It is combination — very dry on the cheeks and forehead, but oily around the nose and chin. And I have large pores, especially around my nose, and rough skin texture on my forehead…ick!

I had tried Clinique Redness Solutions for a while; I have it on my to-do list for a review, but to sum it up, for me it wasn’t enough to combat the redness enough for me to stay on it, and it did nothing for my skin texture. So after using it for about two months, I went back to my old routine of Aveeno Calming Cleanser and Cetaphil Lotion. It was after a couple weeks of this that I realized that while the Clinique line wasn’t a miracle product for getting rid of the redness for me, it had been keeping the redness at bay from getting OMG worse, which it did while I was using the old routine.

So here I was last week, trying to figure out what to do about my face and its myriad of problems. I had been browsing the internet to see if I could find something to try, and found a few blog posts and reviews on other websites recommending a slew of different products. What I decided upon was a combination of things, but mostly the Sothys line products for sensitive skin and redness. This is what I ordered:

L-R: Sothys Soothing Beauty Milk, Sothys Soothing Lotion, Sothys Immuniscience Cream, Abella Renewal Gel (10% Glycolic)

I also ordered Sothys’ Clear and Comfort Refreshing Mask, but it is on backorder.

I am using these right now in an order similar to the Renee Rouleau regimen on her website for my skin type, just with different brands of products. I am hoping this will clear my skin up a little bit in time for the wedding, but we’ll see! I’ll be wearing makeup one way or another, but I would like to be able to wear less sometimes. was where I decided to order from, and I am very pleased that I did. I was able to use a 20% off code when I ordered and received free shipping for my order being over $49. I received my order 3 days after I placed it, which was very nice. It was very well packaged. Included in my order were two free samples and a catalog with another 20% off code. Overall, I am very pleased with and will likely continue to use them for skincare products even if I end up not sticking with the Sothys line.

Do you have any skincare concerns? What are your solutions?

FOTD – New Goodies and an Old Favorite!

Today, I wanted to use my new Sephora goodies! So I used a few of them with one of my favorite eye shadows, and my trusty Bobbi Brown Almond Blush. On to the face (click to enlarge)!

I actually did both photos in natural light today because they are the ones that show off the shadow color the best!

What I used:

  • Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer
  • Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Light Beige
  • Bobbi Brown Blush in Almond
  • MAC Studiofix Concealer in NC20
  • MUFE HD Microfinish Powder

  • NARS Smudge Proof Eye Primer
  • Aromaleigh Underworld (Elemental Lustre Collection) – All over lid as a wash
  • Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Bone – to highlight
  • Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara in Black
  • Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Espresso – Brows

  • Korres Mango Butter Lipstick SPF 10 in 22 Rose

A note on Underworld: I LOVE it. It is a favorite of mine because it looks like molten copper in the pot, and then you put it on and think “WTH?!” It goes on a deep, smoky, purple-based taupe color with amazing blueish purple and reddish reflects, but when you see it in the light it has a bit of a shift to that yummy copper color. It’s phenomenal and nearly indescribable…you need it in your life! You can kind of see the color complexity in the photos, but the reflects you can’t really detect. It doesn’t look like only one color when used as a wash, and also looks good paired with other colors! LOVE.

Haul – Sephora: A Deal I Couldn’t Resist!

So I was browsing the interwebs last week and came across a deal I couldn’t pass by at Sephora: Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer (full size!) with a half size Mineral Veil Primer (LOVE) for the price of only the tinted moisturizer. I’ve been lemming their tinted moisturizer for ages, and love the primer based on the samples I’ve tried. They only had two shades left; one was mine. Plusalso, I had enough points to get a deluxe sample of the new NARS eyeshadow primer, and a coupon code for a deluxe sample of MUFE HD Microfinish Powder that I’ve wanted to try forever. So all in all, a bunch of points in the “yes, get it” column, and very few in the “leave it”.  I also added a few extra (read cheap and on-sale) goodies!

Left to right, clockwise: Samples (3), NARS Smudge Proof Eye Primer Deluxe Sample, MUFE HD Microfinish Powder Deluxe Sample (this thing is NICE, too, very substantial packaging for a sample), Korres Mango Butter Lipstick SPF 10 in 22 Rose, Cargo High Intensity Gloss in Indonesia, Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Light Beige, and Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer.

FOTD later showcasing some of these! 🙂

Haul: Graduation Treats!

I graduate this weekend, so in honor of that I let myself splurge on some items I’ve been lemming since their announcement in two cases and for at least a year in the other.

Here they are:

In boxes…

Terracotta Tinted Moisturizer in Blonde

The new LE Eye Shadow Quad in Ombre Perlees

Rouge G Lip Color in Garance

I haven’t had the heart to swatch the quad yet, but I’ll get to it soon!

As a side note, my most gracious parents have given me a new camera for my graduation since they knew about my issues with my point-and-shoot. I am now the proud owner of a Pentax K-x, so expect to see image quality improvement soon! This is the first post with images from the new camera!

Haul: Aromaleigh!

My latest haul is from Aromaleigh. I’m very excited about it! I ordered full sizes of the Gothic Lolita Collection Rouge in Corset, Gothic Lolita eye colors in Teddy Whisp and Elegant Reverie, Rocks! Sonic eye color in blueorchid, and Pure Matte eye color in Eros. I also received samples of londondungeon from the Rocks! Sonic eye collection, Grape and Latte from the Pure Matte Eye collection, and Rocks! Sonic Nourishing Lip Tint in loveonyourside. I wasn’t expecting the last sample and was really excited about it because I meant to order a few lip samples! Expect a review sometime soon!

All products in this post were bought by me or are free samples.

Weekend Christmas Shopping

This weekend my mom, aunt, sister, cousin, and I drove to Kansas City to do some Christmas shopping. For me, this also meant a bonus trip to Sephora to spend my Beauty Insider “gift card”.

I was actually somewhat disappointed because the Sephora branch we went to didn’t carry the Guerlin Rouge G lipstick line, which I was really hoping to snag in-store so I wouldn’t have to pay shipping. I also couldn’t find really what I was looking for in the way of gifts for a few of my friends. *Sigh*
I did end up getting this for my mom for Christmas:

My sister also found a couple things for her friends. I guess I was just kind of in a funk; I hated the huge crowd we had to wade through shopping this time of the year. It was also a smallish branch of the store.

At least I still have a couple weeks to finish my shopping, and the company while shopping was good!
